Commercial HVAC Contractor Installs Free Cooling System for the Huntington Beach Hilton

Regardless of the season, a critical aspect for any southern California hotel or commercial building is temperature control through heating and air conditioning. As a commercial HVAC contractor for more than 30 years, Ram Air recently completed a free cooling system installation at the Huntington Beach Hilton.

In the HVAC industry, a free cooling system refers to an approach to lowering the air temperature in a building by using naturally cool air instead of mechanical refrigeration. This is particularly effective in winter as it enables the hotel to shut off the chillers and use the cooling tower to regulate the air inside the hotel. As well, the free cooling system acts as a back-up for the hotel, if their chiller goes down.

In the end, not only is free cooling more environmentally friendly, it also benefits the bottom line in terms of energy cost. For the Huntington Beach Hilton, this particular free cooling system was paid within 12 months in energy savings alone!

Commerical HVAC Contractor Using Pelican Wireless Systems

Overview

Hotels have a unique environment for providing HVAC climate control.  With hundreds of individually controlled guest rooms, conserving energy, while providing exceptional guest comfort is a big challenge.  By leveraging Pelican Wireless Systems’ one of a kind Property Management System Interface (PMS Interface) available with Pelican’s Wireless Energy Management Solution, hotels can now achieve a new level of HVAC energy management. Our innovative technology will reduce energy consumption beyond what is possible with other alternatives.

How It Works

Pelican Wireless Systems PMS Interface takes advantage of two easily measured conditions found at hotels; Occupancy Rate and Average Nights Stay. Over the past decade, average occupancy in US hotels has been around 60%.  This means that 40% of the time hotel rooms go unoccupied. Pelican’s wireless Internet Programmable Thermostat combined with their wireless PMS Interface can be programmed to an economy setting during these times to conserve energy.   In addition, there is a window of time between guests checking out and new guests arriving where the rooms are unoccupied.  For business hotels this window of time is generally from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, which also coincides with peak energy usage rates.  Business hotels in the US typically see 1.6 on average hotel nights per stay.  This means that as much as 50% of the time hotel rooms are vacant during the daytime.  By monitoring your hotel room occupancy in real-time, Pelican’s PMS Interface is able to switch vacant rooms to an economy climate setting automatically as soon as your guests check out of the hotel.  The PMS Interface then automatically sets the thermostat to a comfort setting while your guest is checking in at the front desk of the hotel.

Advanced Commercial HVAC Systems Monitoring

Pelican’s wireless programmable thermostats combined with our Site Manager Web App continuously monitors temperature trending over time and the operation of your HVAC system. When any abnormality is observed, Pelican’s Site Manager will initiate a “Push” alert notification. Alert notifications are immediately delivered via text message or email to personnel you have authorized to take action to repair your system(s). For example, if you have a cooling system that is low on Freon, the unit will continue to run for hours trying to maintain proper room temperatures. The result is costly energy consumption which will increase your energy costs. Our intuitive alert feature enables your staff to address HVAC issues proactively instead of waiting for complaints or worse, a system failure.

Emergency HVAC Services for Southern California-based Stone Brewing Co. in Escondido

There are no signs on Stone Brewing Co.‘s headquarters in Escondido, CA according to co-founder, Greg Koch because “if they want our beer bad enough they will find us.”

Recently, Ram Air was contacted along with two other companies to provide emergency HVAC services at the plant. As the first commercial HVAC contractor to respond, Ram Air’s service technicians found that Stone Brewing’s bottling line was down due to the chiller. This critical HVAC component maintains a 28 deg F glycol loop to lower the temperature of the beer down for bottling, which in turn, reduces foaming during the filling process.

Our skilled emergency HVAC services technicians quickly found the problem, replaced the part needed, and Stone Brewing Co. was back to business, filling again.

Commercial HVAC Contractor Services the San Diego Zoo

As a commercial HVAC contractor, Ram Air service technicians were recently called to the San Diego Zoo’s elephant sleeping quarters to provide a little cleaning and adjusting of their commercial heaters.

Like humans, elephants are sometimes not happy with the temperature of the commercial heater in their sleeping quarters. In order to “adjust the thermostat”, the elephants will toss dirt over 20′ at the overhead heaters, which clogs and ultimately, lowers the temperature.

See the photos below as the elephants watch contently at our technicians working and taking in all the details.

Commercial HVAC Contractor Opens New Solar Division for Residential Solar Panel Installation

Trust in the solar business is big these days which is why recently, RAM Air’s new solar division was contacted by a San Diego City Inspector for a residential solar panel installation on his home last month.

With abundant year-round sunshine and all the incentives though rebates and tax credits, southern California consumer demand for residential solar panel installation has never been higher. Although theoretically consumers could install their own photovoltaic cell or PV system, to avoid injury or complications and to extend the life of your residential PV system, RAM Air’s new solar division can professionally install and maintain your residential solar panels.

Since the solar panel industry in southern California is sort of like the wild west these days with companies and contractors popping up, left and right, it all comes back to trusting your residential solar panel installation contractor. With our 30 years of experience, staying power, and strong relationships, customers know that RAM Air will be in service for another 30 years to assure their warrantees are covered if problems arise.

To learn more about the various southern California consumer incentives for residential solar panel installation, see the Go Solar California! website, which is a joint effort of the California Energy Commission and the California Public Utilities Commission.
